Meet Stephen Duplantis

My name is Stephen Duplantis. I am a husband, a father, a pastor and a candidate for the Alaska State Senate, District L.

I was born and raised in New Orleans, LA. After 28 years there, I met my wife Damita (who is also from New Orleans). She had just joined the Air Force when we met. I became a military dependent when we married in 1992. in 1994 our twins boy and girl, Nick and Noel were born in Okinawa, Japan.

I became a stay at home dad. During this time I joined the US Naval Reserves and then began ministry in 1997. The Air Force moved us from Colorado Springs, Okinawa, Biloxi, MS and to Eielson AFB Alaska (where our son Andrew was born—a true Alaskan), then Spain, until Damita’s eventual medical separation.

Our civilian journey took us to Pensacola Fl where I attended Brownsville Revival School of Ministry and received an Associates Degree in Pastoral Studies in 2006.

In 2007 while serving as Worship Pastor in Galt, CA I had a heart attack which required surgery for 7 bypasses. I am completely recovered. After my surgery we moved to Georgia, then back to Florida when eventually we had a calling to move back to Alaska and eventually lay down some roots.

In March of 2011 we sold everything we had and on May 20th, 2011 we parked our vehicle in North Pole Alaska and never looked back.

Since May of 2011 I have served in ministry with This Generation Ministries, Chessed Alaska, was senior pastor at Nenana Assembly of God and student/youth pastor at Anchorage First Assembly of God. I am currently working as Kitchen Manager/Intern Pastor at Little Beaver Camp and Retreat Center. I am ordained with the Assemblies of God

So, what does this have to do with me being qualified to run as a candidate for the Alaska Senate? My upbringing and my substantial experience with the military instilled a deep American pride within my soul. I believe it is my civic duty not only to vote but to step forward when no one else is willing.

I fully understand the separation of Church and State, but I do not understand the separation of a politician and integrity. I am deeply rooted in Conservative principles and true to these principles that government has specific roles on governing the citizens with consent.

Government should never be the end all, do all for everyone. Unfortunately, Alaska has 2.5 times more government than most states in America. Simply put, we have created a state government which is unsustainable. We can not tax our way to prosperity.  We must elect legislators who are willing to stand up and say NO MORE and put our focus on developing a thriving private sector. I am asking for your support and your vote in the Primary so I can join with others in this cause.
